In the fall, all learners take the NWEA MAP assessment. The scores from this single assessment are used to determine if a RIMP (reading improvement plan) are required by the state. We recognize that children have good and bad days and a single assessment doesn’t tell an entire story. However, we are required to use the following cut scores to determine if a learner is “on track” or “not on track” for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee:
Learners who are given a RIMP will not be singled out. We provide differentiated instruction to all learners, so they will receive the interventions indicated on their RIMP in the same manner that they would receive other supports throughout the school day through small-group instruction targeted to their learning goals. We will work to provide ongoing information to help families better understand the assessments and state requirements throughout the school year.
Please take some time to listen to the Parent University on Assessments for a brief introduction. As always, please feel free to reach out to Director Sarah Hawley or your learner’s facilitator if you have any questions or concerns related to assessments, RIMPS, or ILPs.
